About Winter Sim Case Studies Track

WSC 2019 will feature a comprehensive program ranging from introductory tutorials to state-of-the-art research and practice. About 30 tracks are planned, most requiring full papers.

Many busy professionals have done important work that others would like to see, but commercial practitioners often don’t have the time and resources required to submit a full paper. If this describes you, then the Case Studies Track is a program designed specifically for you.

The Case Studies Track serves as a multidisciplinary forum for commercial simulation practitioners to share what they have learned modeling real world problems using simulation. The applications are open to all areas, including but not limited to Manufacturing, Logistics and distribution, Healthcare, Mining, Social and human behavior, Aerospace, Food services, Military, Data analytics, etc.

Submission to the Case Studies Track alleviates some of the time and resource demanded by full length papers and which commercial practitioners may lack:

  • A full paper is not required. All we need is a brief abstract and a two page extended abstract. This is not only easier to write, but an abstract is often easier to get approvals for because you are less likely to expose any proprietary information.
  • Early commitment is not required. While the normal submission deadline is early April, the submission deadline for a case study is August 2nd – much closer to the December presentation date – a time frame where (hopefully) you will have a better idea of what your December schedule will look like.
  • The presentation at the December conference is generally about a 20 minute talk with a few minutes for Q&A, and the audience generally consists of your peers – people who have similar interests, challenges, and skill levels who are anxious to learn from your experiences.
  • A case study presentation gives you a relatively easy way to get published and share your work and insights with the world. Accepted abstracts will appear in the final program of WSC and on the WSC Archive website. If you need justification to attend this conference, what better justification than to present to, network with, and learn from your industry peers.

About 2019 Winter Simulation Conference - http://www.wintersim.org

Conference Theme:  Simulation for Risk Management

December 8-11, 2019 in National Harbor, Maryland

From its beginnings over 70 years ago, simulation has been a powerful tool for assessing potential risks and guiding us in making decisions under uncertainty. The 2019 conference seeks to highlight the latest simulation technologies for more accurately anticipating risks and for making more robust decisions in the face of uncertainty, ambiguity, and variability. These include methods for robust and accurate simulation modeling, analysis, and optimization. We also invite papers describing applications of simulation to risk management in a broad variety of domains, including healthcare, disaster response, power grids, construction, transportation, finance, cybersecurity, and more.
