Python is Coming Next Release
Revolutionary Python Integration Coming to Simio This Summer

Simio’s major release this summer will introduce full Python integration—an advancement that significantly expands what’s possible with your simulation models and digital twins.

Bridging Simulation and Data Science

The new Python integration establishes a seamless connection between Simio’s powerful discrete event simulation engine and Python’s vast ecosystem of data science libraries. This strategic enhancement transforms how organizations develop and utilize simulation models by combining structured modeling with advanced analytical capabilities.

This bidirectional integration empowers users to:

  • Execute Python scripts directly within Simio
  • Leverage Python’s extensive libraries for advanced data analysis
  • Implement machine learning algorithms within simulation models
  • Connect to external systems through APIs without custom coding

Creating Intelligent Digital Twins

Python integration enables the development of more sophisticated, data-driven digital twins that accurately represent complex systems. By embedding Python’s analytical capabilities within Simio’s structured simulation environment, users can create models that adapt and respond to real-world conditions with unprecedented precision.

The Python integration allows simulation professionals to:

  • Access real-time data from enterprise systems
  • Perform complex calculations beyond traditional expressions
  • Connect directly to external controllers and APIs
  • Build automated workflows that combine simulation with machine learning

Experience the Future of Simulation

The integration of Python within Simio represents more than just a new feature—it signifies a fundamental shift in how organizations approach simulation modeling. As industries increasingly rely on data-driven decision-making, this integration positions Simio users at the cutting edge of digital twin technology.

Simio Sync 2025: Digital Twin Innovation Highlights

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Simio Sync 2025! This year’s conference brought together simulation professionals and industry leaders to explore advancements in digital twin technology and best practices for optimizing complex systems. Among the many insights shared, attendees learned how Simio-powered models enabled a Coca-Cola bottler to achieve “$12.8 million in annual operating cost reductions and a net present value of $66 million over ten years” through optimized last-mile delivery networks. Other presentations demonstrated how Simio helps Seegrid “better understand and visualize AMR interactions at key junctions to reduce congestion” in complex environments, with job sequencing capabilities allowing “replacing a full pallet with an empty one with dedicated full and empty put away locations.”

Westinghouse reported that “with the implementation of Simio, what we’ve been able to do is make these decisions a lot quicker,” transforming planning processes where “what previously took two weeks can now be accomplished in just a few hours.” Technical sessions highlighted how users will soon be able to “run Python directly inside your Simio model,” connecting simulation with data science libraries and external systems.

Simio Team: Tips and Tricks

Enhanced Step Tracking in Process Logic

New to Simio Sprint Release 18.276.45400 is the ability to navigate to the step that most recently executed in a given process. On the Process Run tab, users will see the new ‘Current Step’ button that will navigate the user to a specific process step.

In this example, the Model Trace indicates that the model has been stopped at the ‘SetRow’ step named “APIOrders” but has yet to execute the step. This means that the last executed step was the ‘Assign’ step titled “ID & Amount”, which will ultimately be highlighted as the Current Step once selecting the button.

This feature offers another great tool for users to validate and debug their models, greatly reducing the time spent searching for what logic is actively being evaluated. Consider the ‘Current Step’ button as a new option in your modeling toolbelt!
