Installing Simio Software and License Activation

Welcome to the Simio software download page for Academic Users

Simio will be in Trial Edition if you have NOT activated a license. DO NOT use Trial Edition for academic work you would like to share; Models developed in Trial Edition cannot be shared.

Installing Simio

To install Simio, download the zip file from the link below, extract the zip file and run the setup.exe program from the extracted files.

There is no need to apply for a new license if you install the new version of Simio over the previous version. The new version will assume the license from the previous version.

Activating Licenses

If you have not applied and been approved for a Simio license, please find more information on the academic licensing page.

Node-locked licenses

Follow these instructions for Student Licenses or Academic Node-locked Licenses.

  1. Install Simio
  2. Open Simio
    1. First Time Installation: Click “Enter your license key…” link in upper-right corner (see step 2 if you do not see the link). You will be prompted to enter your license key, do so, click “Submit”
    2. Existing Simio Installation: Go to File > Licensing > Classic Licensing
  3. Enter your key in the Activation Key field in the Node-Locked License section
  4. Click “Activate”

If you have an existing license or after navigating to File > Licensing you do not see a dialog with the Activation Key field in the Node-Locked License section, use the “Change license type” and then click “Classic Licensing”

Installing RLM on License Server Instructions:

  1. Install Reprise License Manager (RLM) by running SimioNetworkLicenseServerInstall-16.0.36511.msi on license server and follow prompts.
  2. Set a new password for the default account for the license server by visiting the web administration app (http://localhost:5054/) and logging in with the default Username and Password (‘admin’).
    1. Password must be changed from the default value (‘admin’) within the first 10 minutes of installation by clicking the Change Password button from the left-side menu.

Activating and Installing Simio Licenses:

Visit the web administration app (http://localhost:5054/) and locate the desired license key and its number of seats

  1. Click Activate from the left-side menu. Next, click BEGIN License Activation.
    1. Enter ISV and license information:
    2. ISV activation website = rlmactivation.simio.com
    3. ISV = simio
    4. License activation key = license key (with hyphens)
  2. Enter License Server and Count information:
    1. License server hostid should automatically populate provided activation is on license server
    2. License count = number of license seats to be activated on particular server
  3. Click REQUEST LICENSE, then click (Re)Start License Server, finally click REREAD/RESTART

Client Configuration:

Point client machine to the RLM license server.

  1. Within Simio navigate to File > Licensing > Classic Licensing > Server Settings
    1. If you do not see Classic Licensing, select the Change license type button
  2. Input name or IP address of license server.
    1. The Port Number will likely be the provided value, 5053, given default installation.
      The Test button does not indicate successful communication with the license server, only that the license server can be reached from the client.
    2. Click the OK button and close the dialog box to complete client configuration.
