  2. How do I access a table column by name using a table property defined for the model? In my model, I have multiple data tables each with the same named columns defined for each. Each table has a different number of rows. For a run or a set of replications, I want to select a table to use. I have defined a model-level table property named _SelectedTable to support this. During simulation runs, I want to access this selected table's data by row and column name. Specifically, I want to use this data to update model entity state variables. I also want to stop creating entities when all of the rows of the table have been accessed. I've tried two partial solutions to this problem (attached), but neither are ideal. 1. Create a large set of decide add-on processes to choose the decide the correct table and explicitly reference it by its name. This requires a lot of redundant steps and maintenance if tables are added or removed. The attached example contains just two tables. Controls OptionId and _SelectedTable must be set to either (Option1 and tableOption1) or (Option2 and tableOption2). The first control selects the Entity Type and the second selects the Table. 2. Using the column index number instead of the column name, I found I can use the table property to access the selected table. This method is prone to error if the table schema changes. It is also unclear which table properties, such as "AvailableRowCount" are accessible via this approach. The attached example contains two tables just as the previous. The control _SelectedTable chooses which table from which data is acccessed. In practice, the data tables will be substantially larger than the ones included in the attachments. Looking forward to constructive guidance, Ryan table_selection_by_name.spfx table_selection_by_column_number.spfx
  3. If you are binding a table to SQL Server Express, use the following connection properties If using SQL Server Security, you can specify the server name, database name, user id and password in the fields that are provided. If using Windows security, use a custom connection string. In the connection string, specify the server (e.g. Server=.\SQLExpress), database (e.g. Database=MESDB) and Trusted_Connection=True
  4. The answer is no! If you call MATLAB via user generated MATLAB step simio will temporarily suspend till the outgoing token will return (with a value or not). If you add a breakpoint, simio will come to a "full stop". This means simio can not send any token to run/call matlab/codes. Most likely your problem is that the matlab user defined step does not work properly. If it works properly you need not to stop simio anyway. Try to locate the required files appropriately or check your visual studio edition etc.? I am not sure what is the problem but the .dll file can be outdated?
  5. Hello everyone. I'm new to Simio and I'm having trouble adding User Add-ins. I'm using Simio 10.181.17705. When I click on the Project Home -> Select Add-In It only shows "Source, Server, Sink" and nothing else, although there should appear other examples. Any suggestion? Thank you in advance.
  6. Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has a good idea for how to view a resource's utilization according to the day of the week in the pivot grid of an experiment? Currently, my best idea is to just have a status plot in the facility window to illustrate this but I'd prefer to have an average utilization by day of resources in the pivot table. The scenario I'm working with is having "technician" resources that are being seized by server objects to do "maintenance" on the truck entities coming into the maintenance shop. I'd like to see which days of the week are the busiest so I could determine where to schedule new technicians. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Pit-To-Bay Off-Shift Rule Fixed.spfx
  7. Ever want to track statistics periodically, like by hour, shift, day, or week? I created this pair of objects for a customer about a year ago, then forgot to do anything with it. Perhaps others will find this to be useful. The solution is two objects, one for states and one for tallies, that allow you to flexibly designate periodic statistics on any interval, can skip periods (like off shift times), provides an optional plot, and provides the choice of logging or output file. I frankly don't recall how complete this was when I left it, but I'm sharing it in the hopes that others can benefit from this work and possibly even complete/improve it and reshare with others. Enjoy! PeriodStatisticObjects.spfx
  8. Am I missing something? One can create a Tally Statistics element for the MODEL and for the ModelEntity. I have not been able to come up with an example that requires a Tally Statistic for the ModelEntity. Can anyone suggest such a usage? Thank you
  9. Hello, guys, I do not know how to determine if a detached queue contains a certain kind of entity. I create an element station1 and a detached queue which sets the queue state as Station1.Contents. In Decide step, the station1.contents only returns the number of objects in the station, and I cannot use contains(obj) after station.contents, even though contains(obj) is a function for QueueState and Station.Contents should return the queue of entities currently located in the station, according to the help documentation. Is there any method to access the candidates or objects in the self-defined station? Thank you! Shu
  10. Hi Lucas, Your method works! The ItemAtIndex() returns an entity object in the defined station, and I'll just need to go through the queue to check for the following work. Really appreciate your help! Thank you. Shu
  11. Process logic is typically added to a model on an as needed basis. For instance you will notice that some of our Scheduling examples, like SchedulingDiscretePartProduction (via Support ribbon -> Examples) does not use any process logic. There are several ways to initiate process logic which you could read more about in the "Processes" help topic. For instance, all objects in the Standard Library have an Add-On Process Triggers property category that allows you to specify specific points in the simulation that you would like to execute a process (like on Entered for a Server). A quick tip: you may double click an Add-On Process Trigger property (like Entered for a Server) to create a new process corresponding to that trigger. There are also other ways to initiate processes: using Elements like Timer or Monitor, user-defined Events, or the Execute step. I would recommend investigating these further in the help documentation if you are interested in learning more. One of our newest example models (provided in the software) called InfectiousDiseaseSampleModel demonstrates using fairly comprehensive process logic along with a data-driven approach. Happy modeling!
  12. Here's an example of using a Write step (found in User-Defined steps) and Files element (found in User defined elements) to write data at the end of each replication. When run in experiment, this puts each replications results in a separate csv file (two samples attached). If you have a DB, I think you use a similar technique to write all the results to a single DB file. 13. I need to calculate patient throughput using user-defined statistics but I am not sure how to calculate throughput in Simio. I´ve tried different approaches unsuccessfully so far... Could this be the right expression: Sink1.NumberDestroyed/Timenow? Does anyone know what is the general process for doing this? Thank you, Juan C.
  14. This can be done by calling c# from simio and calling Matlab from c# with Simio API. Details can be found here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1569190X16301356 And here: https://www.simio.com/resources/events/2018-User-Group-Meeting/presentations/API.pdf But another problem is that how do we pause Simio until the MATLAB problem is finished? Any suggestions on this?
  15. Hi Glen, I need your support for an error that I have to manage very often. My company set an automatic backup on One Drive and that is creating problem to load your Add-In. The body of the error is the following: Exception in loading types from 'C:\Users\username\OneDrive \documents\.\SimioUserExtensions\ExportImportModelAddIn.dll', message: 'Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Users\username\OneDrive\documents\SimioUserExtensions\ExportImportModelAddIn.dll' or one of its dependencies. Operation is not supported. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515)' Loading 'C:\Users\username\OneDrive\documents\.\SimioUserExtensions\ExportImportModelAddIn.dll' may have failed because the DLL was copied from another computer and has been blocked by Windows. To unblock it, copy the file to a user writable directory, right click on it and select Properties, on the General tab, click Unblock, then click OK, and then copy it back to your UserExtensions folder if necessary. Off course the file is unblocked, do you have some suggestion to fix it? Simio version is 11.197.19514.0
  16. Hi LizMB, I have a few specific recommendations for you below, but generally I suggest looking into the SimBit models provided on Simio's Support Ribbon. A PDF opens with each model that contains a detailed description, so they are a great tool for learning specific approaches and techniques. A few that I believe are related to your particular problem are "Moveable Operator", "Interruptible Operator","Keeping Worker Reserved", and "Entity Follows Sequence". Worker1 carries both entities to their respective nodes and leaves them in their respective stations after worker(A/B) "checks them" (I used a delay to simulate this check) and then Worker1 moves on. For this objective, I suggest setting up your drop off stations A and B as a Servers. Use the Processing Time property to represent the "check" while seizing both workers needed (see the Operator related SimBit for more information). Make sure all entities are assigned a sequence, so Worker 1 knows where to drop them off. The worker(A/B) only picks up the entity if needed. So if the worker was with another entity in process (like Srv(A/B)), he would go check the new entity so that worker1 can move on, but would return to finish out the first entity to the end. Assign entities that enter the pick up stations a higher priority, and interrupt the Workers at SrvA and Srvb if a pick up task arrives (See Interruptible Operator for more information). Ensure that the Workers have the needed paths to travel to all of the destinations required in all directions. Currently, WorkerA and WorkerB cannot travel to the Outputs of the Servers. Other suggestions: Look into using a Timer Element that could trigger the entity creations at SrcA and SrcB. That should remove the need for Source1 and Sink1. If the Worker's travel doesn't need to be defined by a path, I suggest setting the Initial Travel Mode to 'Free Space Only'. The error message you are receiving is related to the Add-on Processes on the A and B nodes. Whenever Worker 1 enters either of those nodes the process is triggered and tries to complete the process with relation to the Worker. Restructuring the model with Servers in this area should help you get around this issue. Thanks, Ryan
  17. The Simio product and its documentation is obviously created in English but we would like to expand that availability. Software As of this writing (April 2013) the Simio software is currently available in English and German. But the software has been designed from the start to be translatable. In fact we can quickly create a Google translation in any language, but unfortunately while that can be a good start of a translation, it's accuracy is not good enough to serve as a finished product. So we are looking for any volunteers who would like to see Simio in their native language. Textbooks We currently have book translations in Spanish (both books), Portuguese, Mongolian, and Italian. We are looking for additional translations and the translator(s) will be acknowledged as co-authors on the translated edition. Royalties will also be shared, but given the relatively small quantities and low book price your motivation should probably be mainly "fame and glory". Training and Other Materials Volunteers have also translated selected training and other supporting materials. We are always anxious to have this type of user participation to help the broader community. Existing and new materials will be available in this forum. Software Features A few features have been added to the software to make it easier to use in other cultures. One such feature is a setting to control the separator character used in CSV files which now defaults to your systems culture setting. Please let us know if additional such features are necessary. If you or your team are interested in helping with any of the above, please contact me directly. (dsturrock@simio.com)
  18. Hi All, is there a way to make the server waiting for two (or any defined number) entities to begin the processing? I would like the server to begin processing only when two entities has arrived. Then the two entities leaves the server at the same time, and other two begin being processed. Can I do it without defining a process?

  20. Hello I am a new user of the "Simio" software. I have just started using this superb software but I am currently experiencing modeling difficulties. In fact, I have a nomenclature to model and I want someone to help me carry out this modeling, here is the nomenclature to model: I started making a small model but I don't know if it's correct or not, here is what I did: Can i have some help please ?
  21. Thanks Adam for the reply. I know a fair amount about Processes; I just needed a clarification about some aspects related to large models created using tables. The example I mentioned in the original post may be simple but it could easily scale to include 100's of locations. I will give some examples of these aspects that get tricky in such large models below. Thanks Glenn for the clarification. The tip about finding where processes are being referenced in a model is great! The MultiEchelonSupplyChain example may look simple, but it has the potential to be complex. When I asked the question what I had in mind is a similar model but with 100s of locations like DistributionCenter and Retailer (Basic Nodes). Imagine you want 300+ basic nodes (like in my case) to have the same add-on process. Imagine having 300+ inventory elements that you want to write statistics for using a Write step. It's tedious to do things manually. As for referencing the same add-on process for 100s of objects (basic nodes in my case), I found a trick, which is to add the add-on process to one of the objects and then sub-class it so that the process becomes a default for the newly sub-classed object. Then change all the other objects to the new sub-classed object. As for writing statistics for 300+ inventory elements, I couldn't find a way to automate the process. To be clear, I want (for each inventory element) to write statistics at various points throughout the simulation run. The standard reported stats for inventory elements are only "Totals" or "Averages" or a function of the two. What I want is to see how a statistic changes over time, so I need to write to a CSV file using a Write step. When working with large models, there's a need for automating some modeling aspects. Creating objects and elements can be easily automated using tables. It's dealing with these created objects and elements that sometimes needs tricks and workarounds to automate.
  22. Hi Jeff, I present another, and I think, a more compact approach in the attached model. In this model, I subclassed flownode object. And define a timer element in it. I also defined two properties in this subclassed object as Time_to_repair, time_to_failure. By this way you can use these properties to assign failure times and repair times after failure seperately. hope this helps! all the best, gocken Development 02_subclassed.spfx
  23. Hi Ryan, Thank you for the corrections. As always, spot-on advice, that is very appreciated. I do have a few follow up questions. - Do I set the Initial Sequence property to 'Sequence1' or do I need to tell it the row too? 'Sequence1.Sequence'? Sequence 1 is working, but just wondering. - In the SimBit, Entity Follows Sequence With Relational Tables, there are three types of Entities that all flow through the same source with the Source Property, Table Row Referencing, pulling from the JobTable with the Row Number 'JobTable.ProductMix.RandomRow.' For my model, I have two different entities and the source Bldg is supposed to pull BOTH entities with the Table Row Referencing, "JobsTable" with Row Number: "JobsTable.NumberWorkers.RandomRow." But when the model is run, only one entity is ever used. The Table has an ExpressionProperty of Random.Triangular(3,6,9). Is that the problem? The SimBit's table was an actual number. I tried replacing the Expressions with actual numbers and the Entity switched to use the other one but I am still not able to get half the 34 to be one Entity and the other half to be the other Entity. - How do I get the Vehicle to carry its max capacity? The capacity is set to 6, and it only carries up to 4 entities around at any time. This is incorrect, as the Entities are supposed to be grouped into work teams of Random.Triangular(3,6,9) for their initial Source output move. Afterwards they can be individuals or work teams. The Bldg has the Entity Type defined as the JobsTable.Specialty so it should pull from one or the other (like the below mentioned SimBit), and the with Entities Per Arrival Set at 35; and the Entities themselves are set to a population maximum of 17 each and I get a Runtime error of maximum number exceeds limit for the entities. Why doesn't it hit the limit and then pull from the other Entity? - I'm confused about the network you mentioned above. I thought the nodes had to be linked directly (output to input node). So the busy nodes have a lot of paths radiating out from them and it makes it a little messy. Is there a cleaner way to show the routing? Thank you,
  24. Hello, I have to create a simulation of a manufacturing system which packages spices in cans, and as I am new to simio, I am having a hard time making the model customized to fit the real system. Firstly, I have created 6 different types of entities, which right now processes in random order, by using a rate table for the source. I would like to process these in batches of fixed sizes, but the order can still be random. Secondly, the changeover times are an important part of the model, as we are going to analyze how to reduce them. I defined categories of entities by a list of strings and then a changeover matrix, which a set on a workstation, although I am not sure if this is the correct method. What I really want to see is the time spent on changeover in total, and the number of occurences, but I can't figure out how. I have linked the model. I hope someone can help me a little, this is for a big school project and I keep getting stuck. OpdateretModel.spfx
  25. Sorry Cam.Laboy, I missed this part of your message. Of course you had better to define servers instead of sinks. This time you should use Input@Server instead of Input@Sink in the sequences table. By this way, you can collect some other useful statistics, i.e., payment time, payment queue length etc., as well.
