  1. hello i'm the simio user in south korea i want to make my model flexibily. My model has vehicle and elevator The overall process flow is vehicle take entities to server1, After vehicle arrived to server1, elevator take entities and go to every destination. To work well, Three things are needed for this trend First, i want to do if the vehicle comes to server1 then the elevator goes to upstair Second, the vehecle has to wait until the elevator after been to upstair and arrive to server1 Third, repeat the two steps. how can i solve the problem this model in Model2, not Model1 1veh1eleModel.spfx
  2. Good day everyone, I need to acess the average waiting time in a member input buffer of a combiner. First of all, how is there not an easy option to acess average time in queues? Most of the times I have to tally everything, which in turn doesnt work with experiments... It has been a real struggle. Anyways, I was using the approach of using an entyti state variable to record the time when it enters the member queue and another one to register when it leaves the given queue and then tally it. The problem is with combiners, the parent entity "wins" and so using ModelEntity.State Variable - reffering the one from the member - does not work. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi, I am trying to make it so that at the end of a process all of my combiners (say 10 or 20) collect all entities (assigned to a particular combiner when they enter the system) but wait to release to the sink until the simulation reaches a certain time (say 9:00 AM) AND all entities have been processed through the system and are in their assigned combiner. I use a combiner because they turn into a different type of entity before exiting the system. I've tried a few different things but cannot seem to get the process logic down. Any help?
  4. Hi, We want to count the number of time an extra counter is opened in our model. We tried adding and assign step in the capacity-logic process with the New value to NumberCashier +1 which is our state variable name.   5. Hi There, I have lots of experience in simulation but I'm new to Simio - my apologies if my Simio vocabulary/conceptualization is off or if this question has been asked already. I'm working to build a queue model simulation with a network of services and multiple staff types. In my mind, it makes the best sense to do this using the standard library of servers and resource pools (to visualize the network for stakeholders and be able to model multiple staff with different schedules that can each respond to multiple services). Right now, I am starting with a single stage M/M/c type queue to make sure that my implementation is correct before scaling this upwards. I checked out the SimBit titled 'Source – Server – Sink' that has three different M/M/c implementations; however, none of them use Resource Pool objects or combine process triggers with the standard library. I was able to implement a basic model that tries to combine a resource pool with a server by triggering separate Seize and Release process triggers on entry to the server object and after the processing time is completed, respectively. It runs without error; however, the results for average time in system (calculated by an average of a tally statistic that is only recorded for every 500th customer/entity), the results are one third less than in a scenario where I don't use a resource pool and set the capacity of the server explicitly, (which I validated against M/M/c formulae results). Does anyone have tips for how to link servers and resource pools and troubleshoot this scenario? Is there a SimBit or other example out there that is relevant? Am I triggering the seize/resource processes at the wrong points in time? Or is my framework for how to conceptualize this in the Simio environment missing a key concept? Thanks!!
  6. Hi All, It's been a while since I have last used Simio and I have an issue that I think should be simple. I have two entities running on a production line, one gets processed by a server and the second entity type moves through the same server almost like a conveyor with no processing. I can work around this by adding another conveyor around the server, but in real life the product does flow through this server and eats at it's capacity. Is there anyway to set up different processing times for multiple entity types on a server? Thanks, Brendan

  8. How can I schedule a randomly distributed death event for each entity, and pull them out of the system (or perhaps route to a "mortality" sink) if it occurs before they have already left? Somewhat similar to reneging, but I need mortality to be possible during a service, not only in queues. If an entity is removed from service, I also need the seized resources to be released. What I have tried so far: When an entity is created, I provide them with a state variable for TimeTillDeath, lets say exponential(2) hours. This is a real number, not a datetime. As they enter each queue, I set the reneg trigger as ModelEntity.TimeTillDeath subtract any elapsed time since creation, min 0. This works to model mortality while they are waiting for service, but not during a service. Any help is appreciated, KO
  9. I can see average wait times but need to measure wait times over a threshold. I would think there would be an attribute of ModelEntity such as TimeInSystem or TimeNow. I can't tell how to measure from entering the queue to leaving the queue using standard library objects. Do I have to model this entirely with processes? Thanks.
  10. Hi everyone, I'm a freshman university student and am new to Simio, so please correct me if I make any beginner mistakes or say anything wrong. Also, I apologize for posting this in the general section - I didn't know where to post it. In my simulation, I am trying to use excelRead and excelWrite to input and output data to an excel file. I am also using labels to show the exact values. During the simulation, I would like to run a MATLAB script to modify the data in the excel sheet, and read it back into Simio. I have no trouble at all running a MATLAB function using the CallMATLAB step. The problem is reading the modified file back into Simio, which is not explained by the simbit or online tutorials, as far as I know. For example, the values initially in the spreadsheet were all 1's. The first time I use excelRead to read a file, Simio shows the data without a problem. After that, I change the values to 2's, but when excelRead process is triggered, Simio doesn't show changes. Note that the data in the excel file did change. Once I completely stop the simulation and run it again, Simio finally shows the new values. I apologize if I am completely incorrect, but I have been thinking of what the problem might be. It appears to me that the first time Simio uses excelRead to read a file, it somehow stores a copy of it and works only with it, and when it stops it somehow copies it back? I'm really confused about what's happenning. The point is that I just cannot read the same file more than once. Is it possible to modify and read an excel sheet several times while the simulation is running, or is it just not possible using excel files? If so, what would be some solutions to this issue? If I decide to use mySQL databases instead of excel files, would I face the same issue? Please note that I am not familiar with databases, and would like to use excel files if possible.   11. Hello, I'm modeling an orange factory. One thing that I'm trying to solve is the modeling of the reception pools (of oranges). 1) Arrive trucks. 2) The truck is weight. Every truck have a random value of kilograms of oranges. (integer) 3) The truck dispose the oranges in a workstation. (workstation = reception pool). This is model with a Separator. 3.1) There are 3 workstation. 3.2) Every workstation has diferent Input Buffers. 3.3) The entity once entered in MemberOut@Separator1, it triggers a decide process. 3.3.1) This decide is to choose the workstation depending of the Quantity of Oranges versus the Input Buffer. Now I need to Wait until the Input Buffer is Empty, but I'm having problems with that, because the entities don't release from this server. If there are doubts about the model or anything else, I will answer as fast as possible. test1.spfx
  12. Hello! I'm having problems with the WAIT process. I'm modelling trucks who brings pallets. This trucks must be heavy at the server "weighing". Later, It goes to a separate, where the truck goes to the sink1. And the separate create 3 copies of pallets entities. This pallets must be heave at the server "weighingPallets" and finally go to the sink2. My problem is that i just can have one truck with his pallets (3 pallets) after the server "weighing". After the truck and his pallets go to them sinks, the next truck can advance. I create several process. 2 to count the quantity (trucks and pallets), 1 to fire the event "WAIT" and 1 to wait until the condition "QuantityPallets > 0 && QuantityTruck > 0".   13. Hi John, The entity is requesting a ride from the vehicle and the vehicle will seize the driver if available. However, if the vehicle is unable to seize the driver, it will reject the ride request and the entity will move to the Global Visit Request Queue, as you are seeing. You can attempt to have the Vehicle check again if it can now pick up the entity, and it will run the process to check if a driver is available. To have the Vehicle check the Global Request Queue to see if it can give a ride, use a PlanVisit step. Ensure that the Vehicle, in this case Vehicle_A, is the object executing this step. By default, the Vehicles are not aware if the Driver they need becomes available. You might consider using a Subscribe step on the Vehicle's OnInitialized process. This Subscribe step can watch for an Event and if that Event occurs, can trigger a related process. For example, the Vehicle might wait for the Driver.Released Event. When this Event occurs Process1 could run. In Process1, the Vehicle could execute the PlanVisit step. For more information, I recommend the Help pages in the Simio Reference Guide titled "PlanVisit" and "Subscribe". Happy Modeling!

  15. In a model of a bus transportation system,how would I place a certain time period between buses before they get into service, so they won't arrive at transfer nodes concurrently? I thought of placing a delay in "RunInitialized" process, but the delay should be greater for subsequent vehicles, and I don't know how to determine if the vehicle is the firsty, second, third bus, etc.
  16. That is what I thought. However, my results are not making any sense. I see the following: Logically, adding 5 hours of travel time via an interdiction should lower the responses (at the very least the FuelTotal) however, this is not the case. Just as a quick test I changed the interdictions to negatives and received more logical results. However, when I view individual runs of each of these cases, the opposite of these results is what I receive: Fuel levels plummet and reach 0 multiple times during the scenario since the transports can't keep up (w/ 5hr interdiction) or the transports 'teleport' to the ACo node since there is a -5hr interdiction and therefore the transports are always able to keep the servers at high fuel levels. I must be missing something here.
  17. My model assigns capacity of 8 to a server. Two types of Entities arrive...A and C. Before each entity is processed, I am assigning the server's process time using two different random distributions, one for A types and another for C types. My question is whether or not the processing times for any 8 entities in the server at a given time will process to different process times? Or, will the process time of the last entering entity reset the process time for the others that are already in the server?

Hi, I have a simple two stage supply chain network with 2 products (source), 1 Store (workstation), 1 warehouse (workstation), and 1 sink. 2 entities represent orders for each product, and each entity carries orders from data table. Another 2 entities represent replenishment.When orders are greater than current inventory, the store sends a signal to DC and ship replenishment. I use subclass workstation to process the orders, but I couldn't set up the correct logic for calculating service level, which is inventory/orders. In my process, I can put a decide step and say if modelentity.product1 is greater than 0 then calculate service level . This works (no product 2). I can also put a decide step and say if modelentity.product2 is greater than 0 then calculate service level. This also works (no product 1). However, if I put a decide step and say if modelentity. product1>0 or modelentity.product2>0 then calculate service level, I get error message.In the tally step, I have to put (inventoryA+ inventoryB)/(OrderA+OrderB) to make it work. if I put (inventoryA)/(OrderA) and add one more row (inventoryB)/(OrderB), it doesn't work. Now the problem is I cannot calculate the service level for each product. Does anybody know how to solve this problem? Thank you.
  19. Hello, Can someone explain me how to create a model where the server waits to have 7 entities to process all of them at the same time. I am working on a project where I need to receive 7 entities to make a batch and then process this batch. Also, I need to know how can I stop the source when the server is processing the batch and when there is 3 entities who are waiting in front of the server. Source ----------Server (need 7 to make a batch) --------Sink Source --------- (no more than 3 entities waiting) Server(Processing)-------- Sink Thank you
  20. Hello, I am trying to rank (order) jobs based on their processing times. On the attached model, the server should process jobs as : Job4, Job3, Job2 then Job1 but that is not the case because Job1 is always the first to be processed and the remaining jobs are ranked as expected.   21. In our model, we have a server and vehicles of different capacities entering the server at different points of time. We wish to make the vehicle wait until all the entities carried by the vehicle are unloaded and then processed by the server. Usually the vehicle leaves after it has unloaded. Is there a way to do this? We initially thought of using an add-on process for this. But we're unaware as to how to know the count of entities inside a vehicle, without having a specific numbered reference like vehicle[1].NumberRiders
  22. Hi, I want to generate one type of product with one interarrival time. I have one source and one model entity. However, this entity can have different lengths following probabilities. Depending on these properties, the processing times at the servers will be shorter or longer. I tried to assign a state to the entity before this entity exits the source so ModelEntity.Length becomes DataLength.prob.randomrow. where DataLength is a table with the different lengths and the probabilities associated with those Lengths. The only thing is that it is a property and not a state, but I do not know how to do it in another way. Afterwards, I have different processing times at the servers depending on the different characteristics of my entity. For example, server1 will have different processing times depending on the length. How can I reference to the good processing time say I have added a column to the table DataLength with the associated processingtimes according to the lengths? Finally, I would also like keep track of those different lengths generated and see what the model produced in the end. Thank you for your help, Emilie
  23. Hello, In my model, all the entities ride on transporters. At a server, the entitie goes through the server and the transporter has to wait at the server until the entity is done, and then pick up the entity and bring the entity to the next location I tried to model this by selecting "Keep reserved if" true, but this is not possible for transporters with a capacity greater then one (the explanation from the simio help guide is included as an attachment). My transporters have a capacity of 5. Is there another way to model this? Thanks!
  24. I have 2 transports delivering entities to 3 servers. What should be happening is that Transport 1 loads entities to capacity (12) then moves to Server 1 and delivers all of the entities (12). Transport 2 should load 12 entities and deliver all 12 to Server 2. Transport 1 returns to Home Node and loads 12 more entities for delivery to Server 3... and so on. However, what is happening is that both Transports are loading 12 entities then moving to Server 1 and delivering 4 entities each, then on to Server 2 and repeat and so on. I have removed and added servers to confirm that for some reason the Transports are delivering 1/#ofServers of their total capacity, conducting all of their deliveries and then returning to home once empty. I have limited the timepath to each Server to only allow 1 Transport at a time, but then Transport 2 just waits at the Home Node until Transport 1 is on its way to Server 2. Then it moves to Server 1 and just ends up one node behind Transport 1 at all times. The dispatch logic: (Server1.InputBuffer.Contents.NumberWaiting <= 12)||(Server2.InputBuffer.Contents.NumberWaiting <= 12)||(Server3.InputBuffer.Contents.NumberWaiting <= 12); set at Smallest Value for Selection Goal; Selects from a List of all Server Nodes.
  25. Hi, I'd like to build a model with arrival and processing times in data tables. I figured out how to create arrivals based on a table - setting arrival mode on a source object into Arrival Table and linking the table column to Arrival Time Property. A real problem is about how to link processing times in a data table to a server object. I set Processing Time of a server object as the table column, but it doesn't work. I know this is a row reference related error, but I don't want to have the RandomRow option, since the processing time should be selected for each entity in the order of processing times in the table. To make a long story short, I have two tables, each of which is for arrival and processing times. Arrival table.Arrival = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 Processing table.Proc = 0.05, 0.06, 0.07, 0.08, 0.09 The 1st entity should be created at 0.1, and its processing time should be 0.05. The 2nd entity should be created at 0.2, and its processing time should be 0.06. The 3rd entity should be created at 0.3, and its processing time should be 0.07. The 4th entity should be created at 0.4, and its processing time should be 0.08. The 5th entity should be created at 0.5, and its processing time should be 0.09.
