  1. ********************* FOR VERSION 191 AND LATER ******************************* In Sprint 191, a change was made to the Seize step's On Seized Process and the Release step's On Released Process which impacted the Token Associated and Context Objects. This change effects the logic in VehicleX. For use in Simio versions 190 and earlier, please use the files at the top of this thread. Attached is an updated VehicleX (now VehicleX3) for use in Simio 191 and later, as well as the updated examples using VehicleX3. VehicleX3 now will reject an Entity's Transport Request if an operator is not available for that vehicle. This prevents entities from seizing and waiting for an unmanned vehicle. *************************************************************************************** VehicleX3.spfx VehicleWithDriver_VehicleX3_Examples.spfx
  2. Hi, The conversion of Distributions to the correct Simio format has been an issue for me for a while, thus I created this macro to convert from @Risk distributions to simio format distributions. I hope that more will share there conversion methods from other software. Regards, Willem DistributionsSimioTo@Risk.xlsm
  3. How do you customize symbols? 1) You can use the built-in Simio Library symbols and you can easily make minor changes to them (such as changing the shirt color on a person), but you are limited in the changes you can make. 2) You can use the built-in Download Symbol links to Google (Trimble) 3D Warehouse to import any of those symbols into your project. Sometimes you want to do more customizing than this. But you can still do this with the following steps. 3) You can go directly to Google 3D Warehouse (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/), select the symbols you like, and download the sketchup file to your local drive. Then you can use Sketchup to edit those symbols to meet your needs. 4) You can create your own symbol. It is pretty easy to learn enough Sketchup for simple editing. And with a little time, you can learn how to create fairly sophisticated symbols. 5) If you like the Simio Library symbols, you can start with the sketchup versions of the Simio Library, and again use Sketchup to edit them as needed. You can find these symbols at http://www.simio.com/downloads/public/SimioSketchupSymbols.zip Note that most of these are what is known as "low polygon count" (or simply "low-poly") symbols. Most of them originated from the 3D Warehouse, but have been simplified to make them smaller and faster to animate. If you want a better quality of image, see step 4. For steps 3-5 above, you can go to the Project > Symbols panel in Simio and Import Symbol, and do any final customizations before use. You can also save any of the symbols from above into your own library for use in other projects by going to the Project > Symbols panel in Simio then use the Save To Library feature.
  4. Hi everyone, I’m a new user of Simio Express and I have created a simulation model of a business process in which different workers are seized using various types of combinations to do so. For example: Server 1: Worker A, Worker B, Worker C, Worker D Server 2: Worker A, Worker B Server 3: Worker C and Worker D What I’m finding is that entities are seizing workers individually as they become available and in some occasions the worker that is needed to complete the specific combination is seized by another entity causing a deadlock. I have seen in this forum some solutions based on process add-ons but I don’t have access to that functionality. Therefore, I was wondering if there is a way in Simio Express to force the entity or server to check that all resources are available before seizing them or perhaps set some prioritization criteria in the worker that when you are left with only one worker of that type, that works is assigned to the candidate entity that requires that only worker to proceed. Thanks in advance for any suggestions Luis

  7. Hi, It's my fourth topic in this forum within the last several days... This would be much more general. Are there any books on the market with the deep coverage of the flow library? Like a reference book with some examples would be just great. I checked the preview of 'Simio and Simulation: Modeling, Analysis, Applications', looks like it covers only Standard Library (well, with some advanced techniques, but on discrete simulation). 'Rapid Modeling Solutions: Introduction to Simulation and Simio' also focuses on introduction to discrete part of Simio. I managed to achieve certain progress on very simple models with flow library, but wonder whether there is a more detailed coverage?
  8. Pls refer to below paper for integrating simio and M/L algorithms. very good read. SIMIO和机器学习算法的整合框架【AI】Aston大学Andrew Greasley博士.pdf
  9. Okay guys, I need some help. I am completely new to Simio and I migrated from Visio. I have just started playing around with Simio. But, I am building relatively large models and it takes some time to finish. Now, what I need to know is if there is a way to automatically generate a model in simio by linking it to an excel database? I am building production flow models to look at bottlenecks and so forth. So, I constantly update my database in excel. Also, if there is, can you tell me how I can do it? Would I need to code it in the Simio API? I installed Visual studio 2013 but I don't know how to connect it to Simio. I am completely new to this and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  11. Has anyone else experienced significant performance hits when dealing with large tables in their models? One of my tables has a bit over 230k rows. Since adding the table the model can take up to 30seconds to save (on a SSD), and since closing the model, it no longer seems to load. I can see that tables are added directly into the model xml data which does not seem to make much sense.
  12. Simio has a number of enabling features that are not widely known. When you save a project file, most people use the .spfx extension which is a compressed binary file. But if you would like to take advantage of a version control software (VCS), you generally want the VCS to manage versioning and file compares and file compression, itself. Simio has a multi-file project format referred to with a .simproj extension, which is designed with exactly that purpose in mind. Ths format involves a single key simproj file and a related set of folders that contains the uncompressed version of all the included components. This allows VCS to recognize when a small change to your model is made that it only needs to save that small change and not the entire model. While this works with any VCS, internally at Simio we use Tortoise SVN (http://tortoisesvn.net/) which works quite well for us. Simio also has some built-in features to help track and maintain model/library versions. If you right-click on an object (a model) and select "Properties" you will see a set of model properties for that object including Version. This version number is referenced when loading this object as part of a library to help evaluate if an object has been changed and if the change should be accepted (more on this below). Some additional model properties including Description, Keywords, and Categories. These are available in your model, plus they are available externally. For example the Sample SimBit Solutions interface uses these properties to help you quickly find a SimBit of interest. Some of them are also used in the Model Documentation Report. Speaking of which, the Model Documentation Report is designed to provide a quick way of examining all non-default parameters in your project. It can be useful to instructors evaluating assignments or as a way to record or share a snapshot of your model data. If you click on your Project name in the navigation window, the click on Models and the Edit ribbon you will see various options for subclassing, cloning, and copying library objects. These options, while subtle, give you greater control over how the lineage of an object wil be handled. You will also see options on this ribbon to protect your object from viewing and editing, and also to describe changes that have been made with the latest version.

  16. Hi everybody of the Simio community! I am new here and I just started experimenting with the free license of Simio. Simio seems to be a bracing new piece of software in a huge environment of simulation tools. While working with other software tools in the past I now have to answer myself the questions: Why should I start working with Simio? What are its advantages? Since there are a great variety of people in this forum who have already made a lot of experiences with Simio in different use cases, I hope some of you may give me some clues about the possibilities and limits of Simio. Why did you choose Simio when it came to selecting simulation software? In the Past I have been working with Plant Simulation. Has anyone else of you also got experiences with this software to make a comparison to Simio? Best regards, Marcel
  17. I have wondered about this and have received this question many-many times from clients: Why did Simio assign the y-axis as the vertical axis? I have yet to find a software package that isn't using xy for the plane and z for vertical. Thoughts? Sincerely, Martin
  18. Hello everobody, I've encountered a following problem with running simulation in Simio. I am in a testing phase of just the logic of my model, however during a simulation run for 5h and limitations of 4-5 orderes created I get an message saying that number of tokens exceeded 100k, when i continuee simulation it goes on until 98% where it completely stops, simio doesnt respond and the only solution is to restart the software. I include a model as an attachement. Maybe somebody would be able to find out where is the problem. Thanks in advance for any help. NewLogicModel v4 MAIN.spfx

  20. Hi! I have been using SIMIO for quite some time now, but I have barely come across this need. I need to record the time spent per entity at any given path/server in the simulation, rather than obtaining the average time for all entities at the end of the simulation. Take the image below as an example. I need to record the time spent in the link (TimeOnLink) per entity generated. The path corresponds to that connecting the source to servers 2-7. Then, I need to record the time spent per entity on servers 2-7 (TimeInStation). I can display the unique ID number for each entity by Entity.ID, now I need to match the statistics. I figure the best way to model is trough ExcelWrite, but I can't manage to make it work. Any hints? The plan is to get the following information per entity, rather than a summary of all entities.

  22. I have a strange behavior of one of my models. I have shared this model with my customer (for the second or third time). But the model behaved not the same way as on my machine. The changes I had made last to the model were not shown on the machine of my customer. Only when the customer renamed the model, he could see the model correctly. I don't know what happened. And I can't imagine why the issue disappeared by renaming the model. The only thing I could think about is that it has something to do with the way Simio resolves the pathes of model libraries, which are loaded and used in a model. Perhaps I don't share the model in the correct way. But what are the requisites to do this? I have two libraries and a model which is depending on both of this libraries A and B. The library B consists of subclassed models of library A. All the 3 files are saved in the same project folder "D:\Simulation\MyModel\". Now, when I share this 3 files with my customer, the files are localized in a different folder, as the folder "D:\Simulation\MyModel\" doesn't exist on this machine. 1) My question is know how would Simio know that the pathes of the libraries "A" and "B" have changed? 2) How would Simio search for the libraries? 3) What would happen if Simio doesn't find the libraries? Would the main model remain the way it was saved on my machine, using the internal copies, but the model wouldn't any more update the definitions if I would change something in the library "A" or "B". 4) Has Simio some internal cache where it saves the model files lastly used? 5) When would Simio search for the libraries? For example if the model is opened after it was renamed? 5) Or what could be happened? I hope that I could explain my case with my bad English. Thanks for any help. Adrian.
  23. Modeling multiple cranes on a common (shared) runway is hard to do well. Still harder when you take into account acceleration, crane blocking, and good 3D animation. If you have encountered this problem, here is a solution. For standard bridge crane movement, we recommend the simpler Crane object in the Extras library. But if you need the underhung cranes with cabs moving between bays, read on... The Simio Crane Library is a collection of objects designed for modeling multiple cranes operating simultaneously in a bay. The library is provided as an example of complex material handling using the standard features of Simio. The Crane library may be used in conjunction with the Simio Standard Library, and Crane pickups are done using the standard TransferNode (e.g. the output side of a Server). Crane drop-offs can be done at either a BasicNode or TransferNode. The Crane Library can also be used with custom libraries as long as they support rider pickups using the standard transporter ride features. The Crane Library consists of objects representing the Bay, Bridge, Cab, Lift, and Crane (the end effecter that actually picks up and drops off the item). These objects are combined together to model multiple cranes moving in a single bay. The separation of objects in this way allows you to use your own symbol for each component. A Crane movement occurs by first rising up from the pickup node to a specified travel height, traveling laterally at that height, and then lowering down to the specified drop-off node. All travel is done through free space without the need to explicitly draw a network. The Crane library also fully supports independent acceleration/deceleration and the ability for one crane to cause another blocking crane to move out of the way. The above library file is now obsolete. Instead, download the library posted closest to the bottom topics. Like all Simio-provided libraries, this library is open so you can look at how it was built, learn from it, and subclass your own objects to improve them. But unlike our built-in libraries, this is not fully supported (although we can provide some help) and we may not continue enhancing it, particularly if we decide to build this capability into the base Simio products. We are anxious to receive your feedback on this library.
