  1. Hello! I posted a question while building a human-accessible elevator using SIMIO. The modelentity couldn't build its own system to get off the elevator, so I made the appearance of the elevator using a worker. At this time, I want to make the elevator stop from the low floor to the high floor, but the elevator is stopping randomly. For example, the elevator should stop in the order of the first, second, and third floors, but it stops randomly, such as the third, second, and first floors. I want to know the solution accordingly! I will attach the file for your understanding. Lift Project.spfx
  2. Hi all, I am building a simulation of a system with multiple separators which MemberOutput nodes two different routing policies can occur: 1. Standard Policy In the 'Standard Policy', each separator has its dedicated transporter assigned to it and entities arriving at the MemberOutputNode can only select the defined transporter. To this end, a DataTable has been constructed. 2. Power Hour policy In the 'Power Hour Policy', operations are shifted into a higher gear. We select a maximum number of three nearest transporters whose ride request is 0 and include them in the DataTable which specifies the Transporter Selection. Entities arriving at the MemberOutputNode can now request rides from any transporter in the DataTable. I tried to reference to a DataTable called 'TransporterSelection.EPT' in the Transport Logic of each MemberOutput Node. Each value in the EPT column is cross-referencing to a DataTable in which I try to assign the MemberInput Nodes as a Node Reference State Variable of the Transporter (EPT). Is there any way to dynamically assign more (or less for that matter) Transporters to a TransferNode? Hope that anyone knows how to do this! Cheers, Toon
  3. Hi all, I am working on a building evacuation project through Simio. I want to know how can I block a sink object, so entities can not exit through that sink. I also need to know if I can somehow define this situation in referenced property under Experiment and try different scenarios. For example in each scenario I block one of the exits and monitor the number exited (survivors) or evacuation time. My other problem is simulating fire with different rates and interaction of it with the entities, as when they see fire they avoid running toward that direction and change the route. Thank you for your help,
  4. Please excuse a naive question from a newbie. Building a simulation for material flows in selective mining. Entities, "low_grade" and "high_grade", supplied at different rates by two sources, both go into a server (the mining machine) which passes them to a separator. I want the high_grade entity to go to a processing subsystem, and the low_grade entity to go to backfill (or a waste dump). Do I presume correctly that I should use a Separator for this? If so, how do I set it up to send the two entity types to different destinations ? At present, all seem to be going to the same destination. Instead of having different entities, could I use one entity type and assign grade values according to a probability distribution? If so, how would I then use a separator to send below-cutoff material to backfill?
  5. Has anyone had an issue of tokens mysteriously building up and not exiting the system? By using a search step in combinations with create steps what I think is happening is a build up of tokens somewhere without it exiting the system. Would appreciate any help in debugging. There should theoretically be only enough tokens to match the number of entities currently in the system but it seems when the search/create action is occurring it doesn't get rid of tokens. Attached is a file if you run should show the problem occurring around 2.5 hrs. simiohelpexceedinglimit.spfx

  8. Hello, This is a Simio model of a logistics network where experiments are run with different number of facilities. I am trying to automate the model building (building the network) For instance, the users will specify the scenarios (experiments) with the desired quantity of facilities and the models will be built according to that information. I am guessing there is a way to dynamically create objects (nodes in this case), but linking those nodes and specifying the distances is challenging. Besides, when the number of facilities increase, the previous locations change as well. Therefore, the distances between the nodes change depending on the number of facilities the user specifies. I tried to set a reference property to the logical distance of the path object, but it is not allowed in Simio. I also considered using free space, but in that case, the objects in the model has to be located in specific places according to the physical appearance of the network. I thought of this as a significant disadvantage. Can this process be automated using SimioAPI extensions in Visual Studio? What type of approach would you suggest? Thank you. Selin
  9. Hello, I am new to Simio, and I am still trying to figure out which Simio product will be most valuable in my case. I have some specific questions: I would like to confirm the following: If I build a simulation model in Simio Simulation Software, can I import it into Simio Scheduling Software and build on it? When you say that Simio Scheduling Software allows performing risk analysis in real time, do you mean that: You can actually connect the software to sensors where the software automatically performs the analysis based on real-time data? OR you manually import data and you run the simulation model to update the results? This question overlaps with my second question, but it will help me better understand. When you talk about the Simio Digital Twin, are you referring to the Simio Scheduling Software? Their functionalities look similar except for the clearly mentioned physical connectivity to real-time data in case of Simio Digital Twin which is not directly implied in case of the scheduling software. At this stage, Simio Simulation Software fulfills my current needs. However, I would like to leave the door open for building a digital twin after achieving my current objectives. I would greatly appreciate your input on this. Thank you for giving me the chance to join your community! Cheers, Fatima Alsakka
  10. The SkyBox icon on the View Ribbon opens a library of static and dynamic scenes that can be placed in the 3D animation. Dynamic scenery includes several options for clouds that move with the animation as the model runs. Typically, the Speed Factor should be set to 5 - 10 or greater to see movement. Static skybox options include many indoor and outdoor scenes. Indoor applications include adding building walls to surround your model. The 'None' option will remove any existing skybox. Users can create their own SkyBoxes as well. The “library” skyboxes are simply *.zip files with images inside them with the names front, back, left, right, top, bottom. They don’t need to have all of those names in them, Simio will use whatever ones it finds. They are located in the Skybox folder under \Public\PublicDocuments\Simio. Note when you first apply the SkyBox, you can only view it in 3D and you may need to use the Ctrl Scroll wheel to move the camera down to where you can see the horizon. There are over 20 SkyBoxes that are installed with Simio. A few more are attached below. Simply download and save these zip files in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Simio\SkyBox folder. The next time you open Simio you should see something like this under SkyBox options: Here is an example of the MFGPlant SkyBox with a server in the foreground: If you create your own skybox images that you feel might be useful to others, please share them here. Hospital.zip MFGPlant.zip Warehouse.zip Airport.zip CleanMFGFacility.zip NEW NOTE: We just decided to reduce the size of these and some existing skybox files and include them all in Sprint 215. So it is probably better that you just wait a bit unless your need is urgent.
  11. Hi all, This one has been confusing me for a few days now. I'm busy building a large 200+ task process, using Task Sequence. For 95% of the tasks, task predecessors are used, and it works fine. However, some tasks can only start after x days. For example, task 5 requires task 4 to be complete & can only start after 4 days. I've tried looking for a place to put this. Things I've tried: 1. Branch type in Task info, where the condition is: "TimeNow > ModelEntity.TimeCreated + ProcessingTasks.Delay_Days" that checks if the current time is more than the initial start of the task plus the time that it needs to wait. This works, but it just skips these altogether. I'd like the resource to check again the next day the tasks that were skipped. 2. Add in additional resources that only become available after x days, and the tasks seizes this additional resource. However, the tasks are seizing multiple resources (e.g. Finance team, Accounts team, etc., so it's specifically looking at a column I've defined in the task resource table. 3. Creating additional servers to represent these "waiting tasks", however, this looks messy and not sure how it can scale/be modified. Any ideas?
  12. We are building a model of a medical facility where some patients need to be evacuated out of the model using a vehicle. In its current state, when a patient is in the ward or ICU, it will be determined if they need to evacuate. While they are waiting for an evacuation transport, they will be in a task sequence loop. We would like some way for the patient to seize a spot on the transport, perform the tasks loops, and once the transport arrives at the facility transfer node, the patients break out of their loop, and seize a worker to be carried to the vehicle. We have patients looping correctly and workers carrying the patients to the transport node, but they are not waiting for the vehicle to arrive. Having a condition that breaks the loop when the vehicle is in the loading node is not working because as it leaves its current node does not update quickly enough so entities go to the node that then are not picked up. A potential solution we found was to use the MinimumDwellTimeExpired State variable for the Evac transport in the loop conditional (If transport is dwelling then do not continue the loop and get routed to the transport, if it is not dwelling stay in the loop), however this variable is not public with no apparent way to make it so. We have also tried to make a function in the vehicle to try and mirror the state variable value, but this also did not seem to work as it does not update during the run.
  13. I am building a model where I need to use relational data tables to create objects and elements due to the large size of the model. I found helpful resources to guide me when it comes to auto-creating objects and elements (Simio Help Guide, SimBits, and Examples). But for some reasons I couldn't find resources that address directly the topic of process logic design in data-driven models. There is one particular example that's very relevant to my case. This example is MultiEchelonSupplyChain that comes with Simio (in Simio: Support > Examples > MultiEchelonSupplyChain). This example is solved using two approaches. The second one (the data-driven approach) is the one I'm interested in. In the accompanying PDF file that explains the technical details of the example, it does not explain the differences in process logic design. For example, how do I define triggering events? Some of the processes in this example have no triggering events. If you know of a resource that explains designing processes for data-driven models, please share. Thanks.
  14. I would suggest to expand this model I sent before by creating new states inside your ModelEntity. Two states when the entity leaves a station (one updates the station name and one updates the time it left). A state when the entity enters a station. Maybe another states registering how many rows in your sheet were written. The columns of your sheet would be ModelEnity.FromStation, ModelEntity.ToStation and (ModelEntity.TimeLeftStation - TimeNow). Let me know if you need help building this model.
  15. I am building an inland waterway simulation model. The terminal has two cranes. Barge 1 arrives and both cranes handle containers from barge 1. If barge 2 arrives (e.g. after 2 hours), 1 crane stops handling barge 1 and goes to barge 2 to handle this barge. Any tips on how to model this?
  16. Updating the data mid-run isn't a good simulation practice, unless you're building some gimmicky application. But I manage to work this out with this little guy in the Table Ribbon. Have you tried it yet?
  17. Hello and thanks for reading, I'm building a model that should replicate how vessels are handled within a port area. Within this area, there are multiple Terminals (servers) and ships (entities) that have to visit any number of terminals. Their processing times at each server vary. With their sequences predefined, I have managed to model this accurately, based on a first come first serve or another dispatching rule. I'd like to implement a dynamic sequence. 1) How can I model a certain degree of freedom in their sequences - e.g. a vessel is free to choose between sequence XABZ or XBAZ, depending on the queue size at A or B at the time of leaving X? However, in reality, these vessels enter the system, draft a sequence that is suitable for their loading plan, and then try to reserve serving times at the various terminals. I have tried wrapping my head around ways to model this, but can't seem to think of a way how. I could create a large amount of state variables for each server, that denotes whether or not a certain slot has been reserved, but that is not suitable for running long simulations. I read on this forum post that I could perhaps use a storage element, and store the reservations in there. How would I go about saving reservation-related information? Should I store that on the barge entity or in the terminal's reservation storage? How should I go about modelling timeslots in itself? 2) How can I model 'future' reservations of entities at the various servers? Finally, if this functions properly, and entities can request reservations at the various servers, I would like to have the servers compare all the requests at a certain cutoff time, and for all the doubly requested slots have it allocate the reservation based on the entities' characteristics. 3) Would I have to store the reservation data on both the entity and the server side for them to both make calculations with them, or is it enough to have them all on the server side, and denote whether they have been accepted with e.g. a boolean property? My apologies for the long post. Do not hesitate to ask for more information. Kind regards, Tom
  18. A common way to create object definitions in Simio is by combining other objects, for example combining machines and a robot to define a work cell object. This type of object is called a composed object because we create this object by combining two or more component objects. This object building approach is fully hierarchical, i.e. a composed object can be used as a component object in building higher level objects. A second, more basic method for creating objects in Simio is by defining the logical processes that alter their state in response to events. For example, a machine object might be built by defining the processes that alter the machine state as events occur such as part arrival, tool breakdown, etc. This type of modeling is similar to the process modeling done in traditional modeling systems in use today such as Arena or GPSS. An object that is defined by describing its native processes is called a base object. A base object can in turn be used as a component object for building higher level objects. The final method for building objects in Simio is based on the concept of inheritance. In this case we create an object from an existing object by overriding (i.e. replacing) one or more processes within the object, or adding additional processes to extend its behavior. In other words we start with an object that is almost what we want, and then we modify and extend it as necessary to make it serve our own purpose. For example we might build a specialized drill object from a generalized machine object by adding additional processes to handle the failure and replacement of the drill bit. An object that is built in this way is referred to as a derived object because it is sub-classed from an existing object. Regardless which method is used to create an object, once created it is used in exactly the same way. An object can be instantiated any number of times into a model. You simply select the object of interest and place it (instantiate it) into your model.
  19. Hi all, I met some questions in building the model. It seems a very general quesiton but I didn't find any solution from internet... I'm building a general workflow model. I want to decide the quantity of a server to optimize the workflow. I want to use experiments or optquest to get the 'best' number for each server. If I set the capacity type as Fixed, then I can set the initial capacity as ''referenced property'', then I can use this as control in experiments/optquest. However, I have a work schedule for each server now which means I couldn't set the capacity type as Fixed. And then I couldn't set capacity as ''referenced property''. I don't know how to control this capacity in my experiments/optquest. I know I can change the 'value'(which means the capacity) in workschedule table. But I can not change this number flexible in experiments... Or I don't know how to set this value as ''referenced property'' . Is there anyone who could help me with this? Thanks a lot!
  20. hello! i'm a beginner and i'm building a model of a serial assembly line. Pieces can move between the servers only whey they are all completed. i don't want them to queue in front of the servers (i managed to have one piece in front of each server). i've also tried to use the transferline simbit but the entities stop before one of the servers. hope someone can help me! thank you!
  21. I think I know which video you are mentioning and it is quite old - perhaps from Simio 1.0. Many things, especially building objects, have gotten much easier since then. The interface you still mentioned is still available -- it is the External view found under the Definitions tab. But there is a much easier way now. In my classes, I typically give a demonstration where I start by building a TandemServer, then hierarchically build 3-4 more objects, revise all the objects, save the project as a library, then load that library and build a model from that new library - all in the space of 10 minutes! I have attached a very informally recorded snippet of a class. Perhaps it will be helpful. BuildingObjects_QuickDemo.mp4
  22. Hi SI We are currently doing a project on queueing systems at Uni, and our tool of analysis is Simio. This means that i am quite new at using SIMIO, but i will try to explain the problem the best i can. We are building a system of a recycling center, simulating queues in the different lanes. I attatched a screenshot. We need to set the condition that the entities need to use at least one of the lanes, ContainersLane1, ContainersLane2 or GardenWaste, meaning the entities cannot drive directly through the recycling center through the lanes, but i do not know how to do so. Would anyone be able to tell me how set this condition/create this process? Kind regards, Aksel, Aalborg University
  23. This is an excerpt from user manual "Starting in Simio sprint 156, the Seize, Move, Route and Release steps (not all steps) allow for specifying the list members within a table and referencing the TableName.ColumnName within the Object List Name or Node List Name properties. Note that the user has to manually add 'Table.ObjectColumn' to the List Name property because it does not appear in the dropdown or right click table reference. Once specified, this then allows table referencing of list members to be done within the Secondary Resources section of many objects, as well as the Resource Requirements section of task sequence type processing. Routing Logic within object TransferNodes may also include the table type lists. Please note that this also includes the use of table state columns (Enterprise edition) for the list which, combined with the Output tables (see Enterprise Data Window page) and the RemoveRows step, allows for dynamic runtime building of lists. See the SimBits UsingRelationalTablesToDefineNodeLists and UsingRelationalTablesToDefineTaskResourceLists for more examples. "
  24. Hello Ahmed, You still have your vehicles set to Network only. But there aren't any paths/networks to follow at all for it. It can't travel from one place to the other without them. Therefore, distance traveled is 0. You could place two nodes at each end of the server and have your vehicles move back and forth between those in free space. You'd have to set your vehicles' initial travelmode to Freespace Only. Next, you have some issues with your logic. Entities are trying to seize the resources/vehicle. You have your tasks set to seize SomeProperty.HasValue. The .HasValue only checks to see if there is a value in the property. Which it does. But the check is more like a Boolean. 1 or 0. It is not a value or quantity. Then you have the number of units of capacity for each vehicle only set to 1 because work schedule. Which is fine. But even if you take the .HasValue off, you are trying to seize more units of capacity than one. Since your vehicles never have that capacity (remember ride capacity and resource capacity are different things) your order will never finish processing and will always be behind. I would worry about the logic of your model. I have modified your model to over simplify things. Which I recommend doing first. Then building upon that. Get an entity to travel from the start to finish before adding lots of other factors in. In the modified model (saved in10.165) , you can see that you have set a Target. The Scheduled finish date versus the actual finish date are tied together. As far as constraints, you will see that in the Planning tab, after running the Create Plan button, there is under the Tasks of Section1 where the Constraints are shown. See image. In this case, it's the resource arrival of a vehicle. I hope this information helps. Thank you, Judy Model 1 Modified.spfx
  25. There are several ways of doing this. One way would be to write out (to a external spreadsheet OR an output table in Simio, depending on your Simio licensing) the exit time for each entity (and perhaps other entity specific property information, such as priority, etc. Then, you could use that same file (or copy of the output table results) as an input file for your second model. Alternatively, you could place each of these 'models' into a third 'model' in the project and connect them. This would require several changes - the first model (with the Sink output) would require the model to simply have a Transfer Node output - and then right-click the Transfer Node and select 'Bind to New External Output Node'. This will allow that model to then become an object in another model. The second model would also need to be revised to include a Basic Node input (instead of the Source input) where you would right-click on the Basic Node and select 'Bind to New External Input Node'. Finally, you would select New Model from the Project Home ribbon to start building your 'combined' model. On the left side of Simio, instead of selecting from the Standard Library of objects, you would select your Model1 and Model2 objects from the Project Library at the bottom. The TransferNode of Model1 can then be connected to the BasicNode of Model2 with a path. That is the basic concept - you may wish to look at SimBits under the category 'Building New Objects / Hierarchy' for more information.
