  1. Description of Runtime Capability Runtime is the ability for people to execute a Simio model without investing in that design-time version of Simio. Simio imposes no limits to the number of models you can distribute or the number of people you distribute to. And you are free to distribute outside of your organization if you choose. There is no charge for any such distribution. Two runtime modes are available: Interactive Runtime Uses Simio Evaluation Version which is available free to anyone and may be used without activation. It provides the ability to load a model, run it interactively to view the animation, and even change the model at will. Model changes cannot be saved nor is the capability provided to run experiments or execute custom user-written steps and elements. Only Simio Team Edition is capable of creating models that will run in Interactive Runtime. Full Runtime Uses Simio Express Edition. In addition to the substantial modeling features built into Express, it provides the ability to load and run models, save model changes, run experiments, and execute custom user-written steps and elements. Design and Team Editions can create models for use with Full Runtime.
  2. First of all, Thank you so much for the answer in advance, but could I bother anyone who answers with some example model or picture of the method I am still new to SIMIO, so I am concerned about following the advice correctly. 1) Let's say every day I have X number of people arriving( using distribution to generate numbers outside SIMIO randomly). This is the shop where people visit from 8.00 to 20.00 every day with different visit rates per hour (example as below), and I use X to time to this percentage so I can get the exact number of visits per hour. The problem is I want to make an arrival interval random with some sort of function/distribution or table(excel calculation), not a stable arrival rate. My idea is random from 0 to 1 and gives the random number (Y) to match with X outside SIMIO and put the whole table in, but I wonder, is there any better method than this? 2) The second question is about two entities from different sources, A and B. A and B will go through the same server for three servers, but after server 3, one will go to 4, and one will go to 5. Can you give me any advice on how to do that

  4. People often want to model two or more vehicles or entities moving together. There are a few components to this: 1) Seizing the resource appropriately - can be done in processes, but often best done within the vehicle object to make the modeling easier. Here, a vehicle has 4 properties added to support use of an operator. 2) Animating them moving together - the picture below shows use of a second queue animated on the custom vehicle. 3) In some cases, you also need the "driver" to be shown moving. The Attached Animation Speed illustrated below, accomplishes that. I have attached a model that uses a custom vehicle object to model a wheelchair which is "driven" (pushed) by a person to pick up a patient. *********** FOR VERSION 190 AND EARLIER ************************************* VehicleWithDriver.spfx You could use the same approch, possibly with just animation changes, to model something like a truck or forklift that requires a driver. In fact, I just added a second model to that same project that illustrates use in manufacturing (e.g. a lift truck and driver).VehicleWithDriver.spfx VehicleWithDriver.spfx *********************************************************************************** ************** FOR VERSION 191 AND LATER *********************************** VehicleX3.spfx VehicleWithDriver_VehicleX3_Examples.spfx For more information on the update, see the post below. ***********************************************************************************

  8. Hello! Probably it's a easy problem to solve, but I'm struggling with it! I'm going to describe my little system (please see the attached image): At lunch time (12h PM), the students enter the restaurant through the ticket gate (1) and chose the self-service food buffet (servers A, B or C) with the lowest queue. My question is: when it is 1h PM the "C" buffet closes, for this action I've put on the first "C" server a "Work Period Exception" that makes the server to have a new capacity = 0, but its queue (with more than 30 people) continues on "C" inputbuffer, thus I would like the students (entities) to go from C inputbuffer to A or B servers (that are open) when It's 1h PM and "C" is already "closed" (capacity = 0). Thanks in advance! Gabriel
  9. A few months ago Simio added support for animated objects. As an initial offering, we included sets of males and females in various attire that will run, walk, shuffle, applaud, crawl, dance, and many more actions. We are looking for other contributions of animated symbols that might commonly be found in models, such as workers in common industries perhaps doing common tasks. In particular we have many requests for health care personnel - doctors, nurses, orderlies, ... If anyone is interested in creating their own symbols or (legally) modifying any existing symbols, or if you are aware of any commercially available animated symbols that we should consider, please let me know.

  11. People often miss the fact that a Combiner is basically just a Server with some extra combining logic. It sounds like that is exactly what you need here. Replace your Server with a Combiner, then immediately follow your Combiner with a Separator to restore the entities to their individual members.

  13. Hi - I have a vehicle that moves through several servers, one of which is 'LunchBreak;' however, when running the model, the vehicle parks at LunchBreak and the people do not get off and nothing more happens the entire run. Thoughts as to why it gets stuck here?
  14. Hi Ryan, -The model gets stuck at about an 1 hour into it. Can't get it past the vehicle going back to the 'Bldg,' as seen when I track the vehicle. -The distributions are all random triangular with set parameters in the Sequence1 Table. The idea was that the 35 people/Entities would arrive at the Bldg Source and as Entities the JobsTable would assign a random triangular number of workers to a job and then start ferrying them per the sequence in the Sequence1 Table from the Key Column from the Bldg. The vehicle can carry 6 people but it seems to only carry 4 at a time. Also, the ferrying is completed at about an hour and the vehicle just stops at the Bldg with 4 passengers. Instead, it needs to continue ferrying by having the entities 'call' the vehicle to their location to continue the route sequence, through LunchBreak, and then get eliminated at the EndOfShift node. 11May.v2.spfx
  15. Hi - 2 questions: 1. My model has people coming on shift, being transported to various locations, and then ending their shift at the sink near the source. However, I need them to get picked up and have ALL cycled through the lunch break server. Right now, out of the 35 people on shift, only 1 person got lunch, and only 6 people had their end of shift. How do I constrain the server to ensure the vehicle drops everyone at the lunch server and then the EndOfShift? 2. I would like to model 2, 12-hour shifts (each with the 35 people). I need all 35 to show up at the same time. This is my source Entity Arrival Logic. How do I change it to have two sets of 35 show 12 hours apart?
  16. Simio has a number of enabling features that are not widely known. When you save a project file, most people use the .spfx extension which is a compressed binary file. But if you would like to take advantage of a version control software (VCS), you generally want the VCS to manage versioning and file compares and file compression, itself. Simio has a multi-file project format referred to with a .simproj extension, which is designed with exactly that purpose in mind. Ths format involves a single key simproj file and a related set of folders that contains the uncompressed version of all the included components. This allows VCS to recognize when a small change to your model is made that it only needs to save that small change and not the entire model. While this works with any VCS, internally at Simio we use Tortoise SVN (http://tortoisesvn.net/) which works quite well for us. Simio also has some built-in features to help track and maintain model/library versions. If you right-click on an object (a model) and select "Properties" you will see a set of model properties for that object including Version. This version number is referenced when loading this object as part of a library to help evaluate if an object has been changed and if the change should be accepted (more on this below). Some additional model properties including Description, Keywords, and Categories. These are available in your model, plus they are available externally. For example the Sample SimBit Solutions interface uses these properties to help you quickly find a SimBit of interest. Some of them are also used in the Model Documentation Report. Speaking of which, the Model Documentation Report is designed to provide a quick way of examining all non-default parameters in your project. It can be useful to instructors evaluating assignments or as a way to record or share a snapshot of your model data. If you click on your Project name in the navigation window, the click on Models and the Edit ribbon you will see various options for subclassing, cloning, and copying library objects. These options, while subtle, give you greater control over how the lineage of an object wil be handled. You will also see options on this ribbon to protect your object from viewing and editing, and also to describe changes that have been made with the latest version.
  17. Hello, I want to simulate an evacuation network problem. When a hurricane is imminent, all people want to evacuate the hazard area to safe areas. Therefore, we have a traffic jam (congestion) on the road. So, The speed of vehicles changes based on traffic. I have a couple of questions: 1) Is there any module in the Simio to consider traffic on the road instead of considering waiting time for server or transfer node. I mean that congestion embedded on the road by decreasing the speed of entities. 2) Are there any options to consider congestion such as considering a segment of a road is decomposed into cells based on the free flow velocity and length of discrete time step. By this division, vehicles can move only to adjacent cells in unit time. The connectors between cells are dummy arcs indicating the direction of flow between cells. For example, if 5 hour takes time to drive from the beginning of the road to the end, we put transfer node after each one unite of time (server---> after 1 hour--> transfer node ---> after 1 hour--> transfer node ---> after 1 hour--> transfer node ---> after 1 hour--> transfer node ---> server ). In the path, vehicles drive with fixed speed and path has a fixed capacity. Therefore, we can consider congestion if a vehicle wait to enter the path. I would be really happy if you could let me know how to consider congestion on the road. Thanks, Nadere
  18. Hello, I want to model an evacuation network design problem with Simio. My goal is to consider traffic congestion in the model. Congestion happens when road capacity is not enough for that amount of people immediately leave the source node. I was wondering if you could let me know how to consider capacity for either path or connector. I would be happy if you could share an example with me. Thanks, Nadere
  19. Hello, I am simulating a restaurant queue with two servers. The queue is lineal and the entity order is FIFO. The 85% of the entities goes to Server 1 and 15% to Server 2. But I need that all the entities do the same path. So, those entities that have to go to Server 2, wait till Server 1 (capacity==2) is empty, and then go to Server 2 (capacity==2) without processing in S1, and those entities that go to Server 1, then, wait till Server 2 is empty, to move on without process in Server 2. The real example is a lineal queue where you have to choose between two foods, but independently which one you choose, you do the same line, taking the food in the server you choose and waiting for the people that is in the other server to finish in order to move on and pay. How can I do it? Thank you so much.
  20. Hi all!, would you help me with this? I want to do a discrete simulation of the current situation in a Hospital in the inpatient unit. I have the data of one year of patients, (over 18,000 people) and I want to use that data in the simulation. That would make more easy to model the server processing times, while we will use the real server times and sequences that each patient had, instead to use probabilities and distributions for the sequence and server times respectively. So, I created a table where each row represent a patient with a sequence (which bed he was assigned due to his level of acuity) and the time that he spent in that bed before he was dispatched. The are more times involve, but we can focus in those parameters to have it more simple. So, the table have the patient name (entity) ,bed (sequence) and Length of Stay in the bed (server processing time). I don't know if is possible that when I create each entity, I can assign, based on that table, the sequence and the server processing time for each patient. How I can do that? Thanks for your time and help
  21. Hello, I am working on evacuation network design problem. My network has several evacuation areas (source nodes), road segment, and shelters (destination nodes). I consider congestion as people might stick in the traffic and they have to reduce their speed in the road. My goal is to send people from hazard areas to safe areas in the defined time horizon. So my first question is that, can I use SIMIO for simulating my model? Since my model has limited time for evacuation (Terminating problem), can I validate my problem with replications, if yes, how many replications I need? 2) Is there any other method to validate my model? Thanks,
  22. Hi everyone, I have following issue: People arrive at a station (either server or workstation, I'm not sure about which to choose for my model) and stay at this station (person is not moving until all of the following 5 steps are completed). Afterwards following steps appear: 1. worker (A) is doing a process step at the person 2. Another (different) worker (B) is doing a process step at the person 3. The person is doing a "process step" by his own 4. Worker (B) is doing another process step 5. Worker (A) is doing another process step Afterwards the person leaves the station. Could anybody help me with modelling this? Do I have to use a server or a workstation? Do I have to subclass an object? And how in all to modell this. Thank you! Best wishes
  23. While I think all approaches mentioned above are good depending on the situation, I'll mention one more advanced approach, perhaps just for the educational value. While most people think of balking and reneging as a Server-type of option, it is actually implemented as a feature on every Station. So another approach, particularly if you encountered this situation a lot, might be to subclass the Server and change the properties of the Processing station to implement reneging on that station.
  24. Simio does not have a specific machine learning feature, but many people still implement a form of machine learning in one of two ways: 1) Data-driven models, and particularly data-generated models, will improve their operation with better data. As you system runs, and the data improves, the model will automatically improve. 2) Particularly in scheduling applications - a model is never static. Every time your run a model and discover the possibility of creating a better solution (better schedule) you manually improve the built-in heuristics to it generates a better solution the next time.
  25. Thank you guys!, It is just an honor for me. I am glad to be a user of this great software and at odd moments it is just a pleasure for me to present my contribution. By the way, I am addicted to simio because its team members are wholly experienced, talented, and friendly people. They take care of customer needs in an agile and responsive manner, follow the requirements of the market closely (by this way they develop simio by including state-of-the-art properties constantly). This way simio gets better and better as the years roll on. All these make me feel like a part of this great team beyond being only a user of it... I appreciate your efforts. Again thank you for all!...
