For Immediate Release posted on July 29, 2011
Sewickley, Penn – Simio LLC, a developer of 3D object-oriented simulation software, has released Simio Version 3 – the culmination of nearly eight months of enhancements based on user feedback. Highlights of this release include enhancements to the standard library, improvements to the user interface and learning materials, the addition of new process steps for greater flexibility, and dramatic performance enhancements.
“We are proud to bring you Simio Version 3, with its many significant new modeling and analysis capabilities,” said Simio CEO and Founder Dennis Pegden. “We intend to continue to defy conventional simulation development trends and bring you new capabilities at an unmatched pace. When you choose Simio you are getting the future of simulation.”
Version 3 includes improvements, enhancements, and additions to the following areas:
Output Analysis
SMORE PLOTS | EXPANDED EXPERIMENTATION CAPABILITY | RANKING AND SELECTION | OPTQUEST Expanded Object Capability WORKER | SOURCE | INTERRUPTION, PREEMPTION | NEW ‘STATE ASSIGNMENTS’ PROPERTY CATEGORY FOR STANDARD LIBRARY OBJECTS Improved Data Modeling Capabilities |
Improved UI and Ease of Use
MULTI-SELECT AND COPY/PASTE | UNDO/REDO | UNITS | POPULATION MEMBER INDEXING | EXPRESSION EDITOR | DROP DOWN LISTS Organizational Benefits DOCUMENTATION REPORT | NEW FILE FORMAT | MODEL CAPABILITY | FAST EXECUTION FOR QUICK RESULTS Automation/Programming API |
“If you have not seen Simio lately, you may be surprised how much it has advanced,” said Simio Vice President of Products David Sturrock. “Many of our customers have cited Simio’s flexibility, ease-of-use, and great support among the reasons why they have adopted Simio – often switching to model systems that are difficult or impossible to model with other products. Simio is ready to take on your most demanding modeling tasks.”
Output Analysis
To improve output analysis, Version 3 features SMORE (Simio Measure Of Risk & Error) PLOTS to take advantage of state-of-the-art research in output analysis to build in a graphical tool to help you analyze and compare scenarios.
Simio’s built-in experimentation with multi-processor support allows comprehensive scenario analysis. Algorithms by Dr. Barry Nelson have been implemented to assist with automatic Ranking and Selection of the best scenarios for a particular response.
Version 3 also includes OptQuest from OptTek Systems.
Improved UI and Ease of Use
Version 3 improves on Simio’s UI and Ease of Use by adding multi-select and copy/paste, extended support for selected units, population member indexing so a user can to directly interact with properties of a specific vehicle or entity.
Simio also includes comprehensive undo and redo capability across the product to make it easier to safely explore and to recover from any accidents.
This release also includes an expression editor to make it clear when there are additional optional choices available for a function, and drop-down lists to limit choices.
Expanded Object Capability
The Simio team has expanded object capability by adding a worker object to the standard library to make it easier to model typical activities associate with people.
The new release also allows users to interrupt process delays and remove from queues to preempt and action in progress.
A Table Reference Assignment category has been added to the standard library source object. Standard Library Objects now feature a ‘State Assignments’ Property Category, making it easier to do common state assignments without having to use add-on processes and manually place Assign steps.
Faster Execution Speed
Execution speed is significantly faster. Most users will see their models execute from two to ten times faster or more. The enhancements were implemented throughout the product so your performance improvement will vary depending on exactly what you are doing.
Improved Data Modeling Capabilities
With Version 3, Simio has improved data modeling capabilities by adding relational table support, allowing users to define multiple tables which can automatically reference each other.
Organizational Benefits
The latest release also includes organizational benefits such as the ability to generate a HTML documentation report, a new XML file format, and starting with Version 3, models from interim releases will be cross compatible.
Automation/Programming API
Version 3 also includes significant improvements to Simio’s API. For instance, there is a new method on the IModel interface called BulkUpdate, which can be used to greatly improve performance when adding a large number of objects to a model.
Because of Simio’s agile development process, each change was made available to users under maintenance as soon as it was completed, rather than waiting for annual development milestones.
About Simio LLC
Simio LLC is a privately held company that is dedicated to delivering leading edge solutions for the design, emulation, and scheduling of complex systems.
Simio LLC was founded in 2005 by a highly experienced team. Founder and CEO of Simio LLC, C. Dennis Pegden, Ph.D., has over three decades experience in simulation and scheduling and has been widely recognized as an industry leader. He led in the development of SLAM (marketed by Pritsker and Associates) and then founded Systems Modeling Corporation. Dennis led the creation of the market-leading simulation products SIMAN® and Arena®, as well as, the finite capacity scheduling product Tempo. Now Simio is a market leading, 4th generation simulation product with patents for flexible object design and scheduling risk analysis. Simio object design eliminates text based coding for building models and planners can predict the risk in their detailed production schedules. Simio’s unified model works for both facility design and managing daily operations. To learn more, visit Simio.
